Talk by Jon Bates on the history of Fordoun Hotel and Spa at the UKZN Durban Alumni Association’s AGM-- a huge success.

The first talk for 2019 co-ordinated for the UKZN Durban Alumni Association was a great success with Guest Speaker: Jon Bates addressing alumni and friends of UKZN on the Howard College campus on 25 March 2019. Bates provided a most interesting overview of the history of the area surrounding Fordoun in Nottingham Road from the time that it was inhabited by the San to the current time. He outlined the various changes that have taken place at Fordoun - from a dairy farm to its current operation as an award winning hotel and spa. The excellent relationship established with the local community was most encouraging as were the many projects co-ordinated and sponsored in the area - such as the KZN Crane Foundation.

The Annual General Meeting went smoothly - with a report by the Chair (Mr Robin Ralfe) and the approval of the Financials. The existing Durban Alumni Association Committee members were all re-elected.

The presentation was followed by a question and answer session and then much discussion over snacks and drinks in an adjoining venue.

The Durban Alumni Association plans to arrange a number of talks and tours for the year.
