UKZN Durban Alumni Association Tour of Bazley Beach Garden: June 2022

The Durban Alumni Association recently co-ordinated a very successful and well attended visit to the indigenous coastal garden of Elizabeth Forsdick (a fellow alumnus of UKZN) at Bazley on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast.  This was a follow-up to the visit which took place in June 2019 and it was of great interest to see how the garden had developed and matured over this three-year period.

Over 125 alumni and friends attended the tour of the large and very beautiful garden – with layout by well–known landscaper and UKZN Honorary Doctorate recipient: Elsa Pooley.  The garden was a riot of orange, red and yellow colour – with aloes and other indigenous plants in full winter flower. The tour was most informative – with Dr Pooley and Elizabeth Forsdick explaining the stages, dedication and work undertaken to create such a labour of love so close to the beach.

Attendees were treated to a wonderful selection of refreshments provided by the local Bazley inhabitants and were invited to have picnic lunches and go to the beach after the tour had taken place. A number of alumni took full advantage of the good weather and enjoyed picnics in the garden and watched the whales and dolphins enjoying themselves in the sea just a few hundred metres away.
