COMMUNIQUE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR: UKZN FOUNDATION-COMRADES MARATHON RUNNERS WANTED!

February 08, 2017

We need Comrades Marathon runners to run as champions for UKZN’s Disability Unit in 2017.

Dear Members of the UKZN community

The UKZN Disability Unit supports over 600 students with disabilities ranging from visual impairments to quadriplegia.  The Disability Unit is able to attract funding from NSFAS to support their students, however, the funding is never enough to meet the special needs of our disabled students.  The Disability Unit has relied on external donor funding to top up the funds that they receive.  The pool of donors has been dwindling which has resulted in many services having to be cut.  In order to raise funds and awareness of disability, the UKZN Foundation has launched a fun way of raising funds for our Disability Unit.

We need Comrades Marathon runners to run as champions for UKZN’s Disability Unit in 2017.

Become a champion and give our disabled students the “gift of knowledge”. As a champion, you will dedicate your run to the Disability Unit by raising funds from your friends, networks, colleagues, family and supporters.  We would like to raise R1 million for UKZN’s Disability Unit from the 2017 Comrades Marathon.

UKZN Foundation will help you setup a fundraising site on www.backabuddy.co.za, which is an online fundraising platform.  We will guide you on how to spread your message and how to encourage people to donate to your cause.  You can go to https://www.backabuddy.co.za/champion /project/mindlo-doing-it-for-under-previledged-stud to see how Mandlenkosi raised over R5000 in 2016.

Interested? Call Monde Mjebeza on 031 260 2020 or email him on mjebezam@ukzn.ac.za

Thanking you in anticipation of your support for this worthy cause.
