Trust calls on alumni to make extra effort to help UKZN students in need

The latest newsletter from the University of KwaZulu-Natal UK Trust is now available online. The Trust is a registered charity in England and Wales which has been supporting students in need for more than 30 years.

The Winter 2022-23 issue of Trust News features:

  • Trust calls on alumni to make extra effort to help UKZN students in need: The Trust’s regular Winter appeal for donations from alumni and supporters in the UK has exceptional urgency this year, amid global and domestic economic turmoil.
  • Student tells of act of kindness that inspired her to study pharmacy: One of the needy students being assisted by the Trust says she was inspired to study for a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree after being given help and encouragement from a pharmacist.
  • Students tell of key ambition to advance education for others: The 15 students being assisted by the Trust this year include three education students, all of whom have spoken of their desire to promote education in their communities.
  • Trust launches revamp of website: The Trust’s website at ukznuktrust.org is undergoing a revamp aimed at improving the look of the site, ensuring better use of images and making the site work properly on mobile smartphones.
  • Plea for help with fund-raising: Could you bring in donations for the Trust?

Please go to the Trust's website by searching for "UKZN UK Trust" online or by accessing the URL - ukznuktrust.org - directly. The newsletter (PDF document) can be accessed under Trust News Winter 2022-23 in recent News posts on the website.

The trustees call on alumni and supporters to donate as generously as you can to allow the Trust to continue its work of helping students from low-income households. The challenge is greater than ever, given current inflationary pressures.

Please see the Trust's website for more information about ways of giving. Any amount is welcome although a one-off donation of £20 is suggested. Regular giving, such as by standing order, is encouraged as this provides a reliable stream of funding to support the Trust's work.

One way of donating easily is by using the online service provided by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF). Go to cafonline.org and select the "Donate to a charity" option, then search for University of KwaZulu-Natal UK Trust by name or by the charity number, 1004047. Remember to Gift Aid your donation if you are a UK taxpayer.

The trustees are grateful to alumni for any backing they can provide at this time. Thank you.

Kind regards,
