27 and 28 November: Pretoria and Johannesburg Alumnus Dinners

The Alumni Relations Office organised two very successful and well attended dinners in Pretoria and Johannesburg on 27 and 28 November respectively. The events took the form of three-course dinners and the guest speaker was UKZN Convocation President and Chair: Mr Fanle Sibisi. Sibisi provided a comprehensive overview on the current developments at the University as well as information on student numbers, the September graduation ceremonies, current ranking and research. Questions were posed to the speaker and to the Alumni Relations staff representatives – many regarding the possibility of post-graduate study via distance education, the possibility of UKZN equipping graduates for the workplace, the likelihood of UKZN offering entrepreneurial training/assistance for students and the possibility of alumni assisting UKZN as mentors.

Held at Pachas Restaurant in Pretoria and the Grill House in Johannesburg, the events were opportunities for alumni, donors and friends of UKZN to renew acquaintances, meet fellow alumni and to get updated on developments at their alma mater.

Guests went home with information packs containing a selection of UKZN publications and a corporate gift.

In addition, the groups requested that these events be held annually and discussed the logistics of establishing Chapters/Associations within their regions.
