Cape Town Alumnus Dinner 2017: Article & Photos

The Alumni Relations Office co-ordinated a very well attended alumnus get-together in Cape Town on Saturday, 11 March 2017.

The annual event took the form of an excellent three-course dinner and an entertaining and informative talk by fellow alumnus and Convocation awardee – Professor Bongani Mayosi at the Table Bay Hotel at the Waterfront. The event provided an enjoyable opportunity for the alumni, donors and friends of UKZN who attended the event to renew old acquaintances, meet fellow-alumni and be updated on developments at their alma mater. Guest SpeakerBongani Mayosi’s address titled: “Healing hearts, making history” outlined his family background, provided anecdotes on his University experiences and then looked at his current position and work as Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Cape Town.

Mr Fanle Sibisi (President of Convocation) highlighted the recent developments that have taken place at the University, encouraged attendees to support the University financially as well as created an awareness of upcoming events such as the Convocation AGM. Professor Anesh Singh (Executive Director of the UKZN Foundation) followed-up on Fanle Sibisi’s request to alumni to make donations and successfully encouraged some of the attendees to donate funds to UKZN.

All attendees went home with information packs containing a selection of University publications and a corporate gift. Similar events will take place in many parts of South Africa and in neighbouring countries during the year.
