Cape Town Alumnus Dinner

The Alumni Relations Office co-ordinated an alumnus get-together in Cape Town on Saturday, 17 March 2018.

The annual event took the form of an excellent three-course dinner and a most entertaining and informative talk by fellow UKZN alumnus and Dean of the Faculty of Law at UCT – Professor Penelope Andrews at the Radisson Blu Hotel near the Waterfront. The event provided an enjoyable opportunity for the alumni, donors and friends of UKZN who attended the event to renew old acquaintances, meet fellow-alumni and be updated on developments at their alma mater. Ms Normah Zondo (Acting Executive Director of Corporate Relations) warmly welcomed the guests and introduced the Speakers. Guest SpeakerPenelope Andrews’s address titled: “What would Dean Penelope Andrews (2018) tell BA student Penelope Andrews (1977) today? Musings about studying, protest and pleasure” provided anecdotes on her University and life experiences.

Mr Fanle Sibisi (President of Convocation) highlighted the recent developments that have taken place at the University and encouraged attendees to support the University in whatever way they could. Professor Anesh Singh (Executive Director of the UKZN Foundation) followed-up on Fanle Sibisi’s request to alumni to assist the University, to make donations and successfully encouraged some of the attendees to donate funds to UKZN.

All attendees went home with information packs containing a selection of University publications and a corporate gift. Similar events will take place in many parts of South Africa and in neighbouring countries during the year.
