Eastern Cape Alumni Events

The Alumni Relations Office co-ordinated two very successful and well attended events in the Eastern Cape during June 2018 and met and renewed relationships with a number of Port Elizabeth and East London-based alumni.

At each of the dinners in Port Elizabeth and East London alumni were provided with the opportunity to network, reminisce about their alma mater and to be updated on the developments taking place at the University. The Guest Speaker – Mr Fanle Sibisi (President and Chair of Convocation) – provided a very informative and comprehensive overview of the developments and projects at the University and encouraged graduates to participate in the affairs of the University. Professor Anesh Singh (Executive Director of the UKZN Foundation) attended the Port Elizabeth event and successfully requested the attendees to consider “giving back” to their University. Ms Normah Zondo (Acting Executive Director of Corporate Relations) warmly welcomed all attendees at each dinner and was on hand to answer questions.

Guests were impressed with the content of each talk and the information contained in the information packs which each graduate received.

The attendees represented a very true and encouraging picture of the demographic profile of the University and included graduates from the 1960s to the most current and from the former Universities of Salisbury Island, Durban-Westville and Natal as well as the five campuses of the University of KwaZulu-Natal.  The alumni appreciated the opportunity to receive updates on the University - which reassured them of the international status of their own qualifications and their alma mater,  provided them with the confidence and knowledge to recommend the University to family and friends as well as of the benefits of supporting the University in a number of ways.
