Strengthening Alumni Relations and Helping Them Succeed

Relationships between UKZN and recent alumni – most of whom graduated between 2013 and April this year - have been strengthened through a Job Search Skills Workshop recently held and coordinated by the Alumni Relations office. A follow-up workshop on Leadership Skills takes place in October this year.

The one-day Job Search Skills Workshop - facilitated by Dr Sheri Seetal - attracted graduates from all four UKZN Colleges with many having travelled from various distant parts of KwaZulu-Natal to attend. Feedback received on the workshop can be summed-up in the following attendee’s response: “I enjoyed the training and I believe most of us believe that way. If we had been exposed to workshops of this nature more often before, we would all have secured those dream jobs by now……Let me hope this wasn't our last interaction, I'm looking forward to more years of fruitful association with my University.”

The workshop covered issues such as the job search process, job adverts and cover letters, CV writing, interview skills as well as workplace related issues including work ethics, customer care and office skills.

These workshops are an annual feature on the programme of activities of the Alumni Relations office. Alumni Relations welcomes feedback from graduates on what other type of workshops they think should be held.
