About Friends of UKZN Agriculture

Friends of UKZN Agriculture is network of people and organisations affiliated to UKZN’s School of Agricultural, Earth & Environmental Sciences (and its antecedent institutions) that exists to promote, establish and maintain mutually beneficial relationships between SAEES, Alumni of the university and agribusinesses. Friends of UKZN Agriculture was launched on the 25th of May 2012 at a function attended by 150 people at the Royal Show in Pietermaritzburg and continues to host this networking function on the first Friday of the Royal Show each year.

The Association is run by the founding committee, made up of various key alumni working in organisations such as Lima, the Institute of Natural Resources, Standard Bank and the University. The day-to-day running of the association is handled by Christine Cuénod, Networking Facilitator for Friends of UKZN Agriculture.

If you are an Alumnus/Alumna of this School or of the old Agricultural Faculty or just interested in what we’re doing, Friends of UKZN Agriculture would love to keep you updated on what is happening at UKZN as far as Agriculture goes, and we’d love to hear where your career has taken you! Contact Christine on cuenod@ukzn.ac.za or 033 260 6557 to join our network and receive updates on SAEES, as well as advertisements for seminars, continued professional development short courses, graduate presentation days and other networking events.

You can also contact Christine if you wish to establish and grow your relationship with SAEES, for example by initiating contract research, head-hunting top students, hosting student interns, advertising vacancies for graduates, hosting a field trip for students and addressing the scarcity of specialized agricultural skills in your line of work. Christine is based in in the Rabie Saunders Building on the Life Sciences Campus in Pietermaritzburg.
